Meet Kerry Neilson

Dr Kerry Neilson is originally from Invercargill. Her family moved to Hamilton when she was eight years old. She attended Fairfield schools through her first year at Waikato University before going on to study medicine at the University of Otago in Dunedin.

That was followed by 40 years as a general practitioner, including assisting with deliveries and home births. Later, her GP work expanded to include family planning clinics, youth health clinics, marae clinics, and Emergency Department shifts—to add variety to life, Kerry says.

Kerry later moved to the Bay of Plenty to be closer to her grandchildren, where she was semi-retired and worked at Te Puke Medical Centre until early this year.

Kerry says she is standing for the Women’s Rights Party, whose aims she describes as “laudable”. She says she wants to strengthen the role women play in leading society.

“The Women’s Rights Party’s aims are laudable. The female perspective on how the next 100 years should evolve is important for our society and for the world our children will inherit.

“I believe we are here for the long game. It’s the only way to play it.”

We are the only political party in New Zealand that puts women first.
