Ann Galloway
Meet Ann Galloway
Ann Galloway was raised in the UK as part of a hardworking, left-leaning family. She left school at 15 with no qualifications because her family needed her to contribute to the household. She always regretted not staying on at school and later attained Level 4 qualifications from Brighton Polytechnic.
Living in Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex, Ann worked as a Scheme Manager in a local council-run sheltered housing scheme, supporting older people and liaising with other agencies to help them access the assistance they needed.
While working for the local council, Ann became a union representative for the workers, a position she took very seriously and enjoyed because it allowed her to speak up on their behalf.
She moved to New Zealand in 1996 with her husband and son, and the family made Dunedin their home. She continued working with older people as a caregiver and support worker in aged care. Again, Ann became a union representative and was involved in collective bargaining. This led her to become passionate about workers’ rights, and she eventually became a union official for the Service and Food Workers Union, which later became E tū. Her role involved advocating for workers in disputes and negotiating collective agreements, and she became highly experienced in negotiation and public speaking.
Ann says she is excited to be a candidate on the Women’s Rights Party list. She believes that women’s rights have been gradually eroded over a number of years.
As number four on the Women’s Rights Party list, Ann would enter Parliament if the Women’s Rights Party achieved 5% of the party vote. She says she would be a voice for women workers in particular, and for the rights and interests of women and children, helping to ensure they can become the best they can be while retaining and improving the rights that earlier generations of women fought so hard to achieve.
We are the only political party in New Zealand that puts women first.
