Should NZ law acknowledge ‘gender identity and expression’?

The Law Commission is an independent Crown entity tasked with reviewing New Zealand law and making recommendations to the government on how to improve it.

The Commission has managed to produce 211 pages justifying their argument that the Human Rights Act needs to be changed to include “people who are transgender, people who are non-binary and people with innate variations of sex characteristics”.

Co-leader of the Women’s Party Jill Ovens recently discussed with Sean Plunket why the Law Commissions recommendations are a bad idea:

We are encouraging members to have a say.

We are also planning to run workshops to highlight the arguments against including ‘gender identity’ in the Human Rights Act.
